VNP Solution We want to argue a case for devolution for the Isle of Wight
to bring the islands political system closer to that of the Channel Island's
and the Isle of Man. The old political party system can be scrapped and ministers appointed to an island parliament. Both the Channel Islands and The Isle of Man report legislation gets done as there is less bickering and party politics and everyone is working to the same ends to improve life for the islanders. Politicians develop a sense of belonging and a pride in their island. The island can, if it chooses, adopt a tax haven status. It can also leave the European Union. The island is well situated to become a tax free state being so close to mainland England. The island can have its own bank and currency. This will provide considerable growth and employment for the island on a sustainable level. We can control our own boarders. We can control house building. The council's planned house building will increase house prices to an unacceptable level. Jersey realised after the last war it couldn’t provide affordable housing to its own people unless there were restrictions on people moving to the island. The Isle of Wight needs to consider the same restrictions and monitor the population and limit housing to protect the island rural culture and way of life. Housing can be restricted by proof of residency prior to independence, all new comers will have to provide proof of sustained employment on the island, or provide either wealth or new industry to the island economy. The island will have the opportunity to gear itself to the primary source of economy, tourism. Autonomy will allow and foster the island's unique culture. Under Autonomy it will be possible to have our own currency, stamps and car registrations. The island will control its own destiny rather than relying on mainland UK deciding our future.
